Online help for Illustrator Recovery Toolbox

This program is used to recover data from corrupted Adobe Illustrator files. The developers of Illustrator Recovery Toolbox (download) made its interface as easy and convenient as possible so even users without enough experience (or with minimum computer experience) can successfully recover a corrupted file and continue working with it. Just follow the instructions displayed on the screen and the program will take care of the recovery process.

In those cases when the program fails to recover data automatically, you can use the Send file to developers button located in the lower part of the first wizard page. The current file will be attached to a new e-mail message (the default e-mail client will be used). You can also use the Send source file button from the Options section of the main menu. After the employees of the company receive the file, they will try to recover your data and also use this opportunity to improve the recovery algorithms. After that they will contact your as soon as possible and let you know about the results.

Step 1. - Selecting the corrupted file

The source corrupted file is selected in the first step of the recovery wizard. You can use one of the following ways to do it:

  • enter the name of the file and the path to it into the input field located in the center of the program;
  • use the standard open dialog box opened with a click on the icon to the right from the input field;
  • select one of the previously used files from the drop-down list opened with a click on the button with a triangle on it in the right part of the input field.

After you select the file, you can proceed to the next recovery step.

Step 2. - Analyzing the file and recovering data

This step is completely automatic. Illustrator Recovery Toolbox analyzes the structure of the file step by step and detects objects that can be recovered. The time this process takes directly depends on how complex the structure of the file is, on its size and on your computer performance. The recovery process may be aborted at any moment with a click on the Abort button. This operation will not affect the source file in any way that is why you can try to recover it again whenever it is convenient for you. After this step is over, the program will automatically move on to the final step.

Step 3. - Saving the recovered information

The final step of the recovery process is used to save the recovered data. You can use one of the following ways to select the output file:

  • enter the name of the file and the path to it into the input field located in the center of the program;
  • use the standard dialog box opened with a click on the icon to the right from the input field;
  • select one of the previously used files from the drop-down list opened with a click on the button with a triangle on it in the right part of the input field.
Note: that the saved file will not be compatible with the PDF format and will not be compressed. Use Adobe Illustrator to make the file compatible with PDF and to compress it.

Step 4. - Analyzing the file and recovering data

After the program saves the file, it will display the log of completed operations on the screen where all detected objects are listed: gradients, characters, styles, layers, etc.

You can click the Finish button to finish working with the program. If you want to recover data from another file, use the "Back" button to get back to the first step where you select the corrupted file.
